setting up for a scout scope

I recently bought an old Model 94 30-30 that had a side mounted scope. I never much cared for that set up, but my vision isn't up to snuff for iron sights. How can I set this up for using a "Scout scope"?

I installed one on my Trapper. It installed on the original rear site mount and the front reciever screws. I am quite happy with it, the XS mount, that is.
