BER007.450 ACKLEY BEST BARREL LENGHT
Hi all,
I have a CZ 500 Mag, I want to change the original barrel (25.5") into a Lothar Walther match grade.
I wonder what is the best barrel lenght regarding weight and accuracy for that caliber.
I want also a muzzle break I have the choice between a removal or a fixed. What is the best?
Thanks for your input

Ber007,
You might like toconsider a removeable break with a trim ring so you can have the best of both worlds (break on or off).
The barrel length I feel would be a personal thing and how much velocity your prepared to sacrifice. My cz 550 has the 25" barrel and I like it.

RobgunbuilderI have two 450 Ackleys that I built myself. The first is on a Rem 700 and has a 26 barrel and the second which I like a whole lot more is a 24 inch on a pre-64 M-70. I have a homemade integral brake( 6 holes X6 spacing) on the Rem 700 and an internal crown. I didn't put a brake on the M-70 as I wanted a barrel band front sight and it didn't look "African" enough with the brake. I can always EDM in a brake later. As far as accuracy goes, expect 2400fps with 500 gr bullets and sub MOA at 100 yrds. More than enough for MOB ( Minute of Buffalo).-Rob

AtkinsonI always use a detachable brake that screws in under the barrel band, if fact I will take credit for its inovation as I started doing that in the mid 1950's....I have a false muzzle that screws in under the barrel band so that one cannot tell it will take a muzzle brake..
I like a lenth of 26" with or without a muzzle brake and I cut my barrels accordingly. I use a muzzle brake on 458 Lott and larger calibers..I do have on on my 416 Rem but I only use it for bench testing loads etc.
