All the stipple work and lettering is done. The scroll work starts next week. I couldn't be happier with it. Roger is a true artist.

Lee, Shane Thompson did those.

Here is what the gripcap is going to look like. It'll have a little scroll with it I think.

What Roger is doing to this rifle is simply amazing.

Roger, do you do your stippling with some sort of fixture or machine, or do you hand-prick every stipple with a punch? I've made some multi-point stippling tools, out of reshaped and rehardened punches, but have never been perfectly satisfied with the results. I know that many traditional hammer-&-chisel engravers actually use a power tool for their simple stippling and shading but I don't have one.

Do I need to start saving for a machine or do I need to cultivate more patience with the hand stippler? Or maybe start using a different hand stippler? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Joe

I use a chisel shaped punch about 80 or 90 thou wide. I stipple in 3 directions. 0, 45 left and 45 right. This gives a uniform non- directional matte.

Hand or machine... shouldn't make much difference either way.

Thanks, Roger. I figured that the machine would be lots faster for at least the larger open areas but the little punch you described is a lot cheaper.....

Terry, that looks fantastic. It is the little details that really make a gun like this stand out and you have one of the best in the business working for you. Congratulations my friend.

Roger sent some pictures of the floormetal yesterday. I was speechless for awhile. This thing is going to have a look to it.

I usually roll my eyes when everyone starts falling all over themselves to complement the latest custom work to be posted. It is usually very nice but I really can't see getting too worked up about it.

But Mr. Kehr's engraving is a different story. Engraving usually leaves me cold, but Roger's work is always amazing.

Mr. Kehr, looking at your engraving is an experience that I can't describe except to compare it to looking at a painting done your favorite painter(for me that would be Van Gogh or Monet). My eye is drawn in, but I can't focus on one detail because each detail draws the eye to the next. Amazing work!

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

I have seen some nice art before on some firearms but this is unlike anything I have seen. The others I would see take a second to look at it and move on calling it too much. But this just flat out is fantastic. I have yet see anything come close to this.
I just do hope its not done on CNC!
