Dangerous Davesuper carbine
I am looking to build a short carbine for florida deer hunting. I was simply going to cut down a model 7 in .260 from the 20" factory to a 17". It will fit nicely in the rack of my ATV and should be easy to manuver in a tree stand or pop up blind. What can I expect to loose with the loss in barrel lenght. Any other suggestions.

gzig5The velocity lost by cutting off three inches of barrel will probably be offset by the increase in muzzle blast. Better be wearing your "ears" on the stand. I'd leave it alone.

Weight wise, somewhere around 3 ounces (+/-) depending on the barrel contour

max(hm2)yep, by 1 inch. 16 is the absolute minimum unless you want to do a bunch of paperwork and pay the nice people a $200 tax.

KSTEPHENSif you want short and handy why not get a NEF handi rifle in 45-70 and cut it to 18".
you will have the same velocity as a marlin guide gun and 4" shorter.
all for around $200.
