6.5-284 on a win 70 SA
Dear Sirs:

I own a win 70 on 243 win, and I want to rebarrel it to 6.5-284. I intend to use it with light bullets (less than 129 grs).
Is it possible to do without big feeding problems?

Best Regards

I never build 6.5x284s on short actions. 6.5 mm bullets are long & you need all the magazine length you can get. Don't restrict yourself to the limitations of a short actions magazine length.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I've done several 284 based cartriges on the M70 short action and used the WSM box mag and shortened the bolt stop which will give you a 3.050" mag length. It worked very well, but this was with the new CRF actions from FN.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

+1. Matt hit the nail on the head. WSM mag box and shortened bolt stop are key. My 6.5x284 is built on what was once a SC M70 7mm-08, using a Rock Creek 26" fluted #3, 8.5 twist barrel.

I'll add that the WSM follower cleared up feeding issues, even though I used the WSM mag box to start with.
