10at6Sako with odd twist????? STRANGE
About 20 years ago I purchased a Colt/Sako 30-06 from a co-worker that was moving to MA. He inherited the rifle from his father in law. He knew nothing about firearms, but told me the rifle had an oddball twist and would not stabilize a "normal" bullet. I promtly purchased the rifle, dies, brass,and bullets for $175.
I glassed, floated, and pillar bedded this nice rifle, loaded some 165 Nosler SB...NM load of IMR 4064 and went to the range.
The load grouped about 8" at 100 yards with several keyholes.Checked the mount, scope, and returned...same thing.
I went home, cleaned and ran a tight patch through the barrel..........came up with 1 in 16 twist..can't be Several more passes and I verified the twist at 1 in 16-17. Loaded 10 Sierra 125s, returned to the range and they shot sub 1.0 MOA. Sold the rifle with my data and confusion.
Anyone ever hear of such a thing?
I wish I would have kept the thing.. just because no one will belive me
could it have been rechambered from a smaller cartridge?that would have required a different twist

Husqvarna M98Sako has done more one offs then any other rifle company I have knowledge about, the rifle may very well have been special order.
Good luck enjoying a solid piece of rifle history.

10at6The rifle had the original Colt/Sako barrel as issued in the mid 60's. I can only wonder why?

StonewallThe only one that I have seen was a 30-06 with a 1-10 twist. It shot 165 partitions very well. Interesting story -wonder what happened with that one barrel when it was made.
