Actions?
I have several barrels and stocks that I've collected or obtained over the years. I'm looking at putting a couple guns together but I can't find action out side of brand new ones. Are brand new actions the only ones available or do used ones exist? If you have any advice it welcome and thanked for in advance.

It depends on what sort of action you are looking for. There are deals to be had in surplus mauser actions, but if you are looking for something like a Rem or Win the consensus often sems to be to buy a new gun and sell off the parts you don't need. Especially in the next few months when the fall hunting promotions start.

Winchester doesn't sell actions (as far as I know), so if you want something with a claw, buy a CZ, mil-surp Mauser, Ruger, etc. Remington as far as know, sells barreled actions so you can either sell off the barrel to
Gun Parts Corp. or save it for later use. Or you could always get a Sako or Savage(?) action.

I prefer the current Model 70 "Classic" action for the custom hunting rifles I have made. I either buy basic, used Model 70's with the action (including the trigger group) in unaltered, factory-original condition, or else I buy a new rifle at the lowest price I can find. I sell the stocks and sometimes the bottom metal later on, which helps reduce the cost a bit.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't worry about hedging my action costs by $100 or so if I find the right action. After all, the action is the foundation of any rifle, and with first-rate custom work costing what it does these days, good factory actions like the Model 70 are something of a bargain if you take your time shop well.

If you're looking for a rifle to strip for the action, gunshows can be a good place to start.
