JonP5.6 x 35R
Anyone know if a 5.6 x 35R (Vierling Patron) can be bored out to a standard and available domestic small caliber?
Thanks

N E 450 No2Isn't the 5.6x35R the same as the 22 Hornet?

J.D.SteeleIt is widely assumed and even stated to be the same in some sources, however I once owned a Hubertus vierling chambered for the European version and Hornet rims were far too thick. All other dimensions appeared to be the same but the rims were definitely different and Hornet rims/cases would not chamber even with the case shortened to just ahead of the rim. Might have been only that one gun but....go figure.

DUKRim dimensions are different but that can be fixed, either on the barrel or on the rim.
More sensitive is the caliber, the Vierling does not have .224 but .222.
Jon,
it sounds like you own a old and possible fine firearm. I would consider leaving as it is and reload. Dies are still available.

ShopCartRacingGet another domestically chambered rifle and sell that one to someone else who wants to use it as-is.
The days of converting oddballs to other, more accessible calibers, is OVER.

JonPThis is a Bockdrilling chambered 16/70-7x65R and 5.6/35R. Ballistically where does this little cartridge perform?...I assume somewhat below the Hornet. Can't seem to find any data.

DUKThis is from a 2002 Vihta Reloading manual, if you need a copy, just PM me a mail adress.

And yes, a Bockdrilling in original state is a very fine and valuabe rifle! With the 7x65 R you can shoot anything up to moose, it's more or less like a .270 Win.
