Modern Mauser Side Mounts - HELP!
Please who still makes, or has old stock, of Mauser side mounts for either 1" or 30mm 'scopes.

I'm not looking for modern made replicas of the various Wehrmacht mounts.

Just the sort of thing as Holland and Holland still do (at a price) or similar.

Something that is available still now. I don't have a problem with new old stock or even a good condition take-off from a "scrapped" rifle.

I have a rifle with iron sights that are quite low. If I were to fit Redfield, Leupold, Apel EAW, etc. etc., on the receiver ring then they are blocked from view by the bases if I take the 'scope off!

And what about the Swedish side mounts in aluminium from the 1950s and 1960s? Will these fit a 98K?

Many thanks!

APEL makes modern high quality sidemounts.

I have once tested those swede alu mounts and don't like them. But they fit m98 OK.

Why not get higher irons? That way you will get a more simmilar cheek-kontact with scope and irons. And it is cheaper.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to find a low set of bases and mill a channel through them so that you can see the sights.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Jens,

I'm not sure what is, who made it, or if I'd ever be able to afford, but I am quite sure that I like it. Do you have any details on that rifle and its scope mounts?

Enfieldspare,

Gottfried Prechtl offer a classic English style claw mount, which is attached to the Mauser action from the left side. The rear Ring mount will be hooked in, the front ring mount will be locked. The length of the middle tube is therefore relative unimportant. Mount comes in the white, containing 1” front- and rear ring, rear hook plate and front lock with lever and requires fitting, very simular to the pictures show above. If you visit his web side:http://www.golmatic.de/Waffen_EN/buechsenmacherbedarf_en/visier_en.htm and scroll down to item WT02301 you wil get a picture.

Hey enfieldspares
Maybe Golmatic is what you are loooking for:
www.golmatic.de/Waffen_EN/buec...arf_en/visier_en.htm
"OFF-SET SCOPE MOUNT for MAGNUM rifles - Classic English off-set frog mount. Insert the backside ring and lock the frontside ring. Scope length is not important.

Kit contains (in the white): frontside ring, backside ring, 1-INCH lock sheet, frontside lock, locking lever."

Thank you ALL so much for your kindness in replying. Those Golmatic mounts look just the job and I'd never have ever found them without the link. Thank you!

Is the ring on your rifle, Jens, a Golmatic? If so it is almost and exact look-a-like for the Holland and Holland style I'm seeking.

You can talk with Paul Roberts at Jeffery there in the UK. I get mine from him. They will need to be finished out by your gunsmith or they cound fit them in their shop. Paul has been great to deal with!

Sincerely,
Jack

Ron Wharton, based near Horsham, will make you a set of H&H side mounts for a Mauser, left or right handed. In fact he just made a set for me. Expect to spend some money on a quality product.

Ron Wharton is probably your best bet in the UK but Reto Buehler will make some really nice ones for you as well here in the states. Again, not cheap though.
