tig weld barrel extension ?
I want to put an extension on my 15"ss factory encore .223 barrel. After taking some mesurements I have found that a ss 1/4" pipe coupling is within a few .000 of the same od size as the end of my bbl and a 9/16" drill bit removes all threads from the id and the length makes it right at 16". I guess my ? is how much heat can the end of the barrel take and not deform or ruin the crown? I have seen this guy tig 2 pop cans togeather so I am pretty confident that taking his time he can keep the heat at a minimum also would not silver soldering use more direct heat? I am probly gonna do this and if something bad might happen I could always cut barrel length back to 12" or so ? thanks for any input. Kurt

You would be much better off having the barrel threaded then having the false muzzle blind pinned on.

I have two barrels with a TIG welded extension:
1) Ruger 44 carbine
2) Kel-Tec P32
Picture of a pistol barrel with extension TIG welded on

The process works well, but if there is allot extension that accellerates the bullet but does not have riflings, the bullets will key hole.
