No. The tape will be blown off by the gases.

Wear plugs or muffs.

Hey guys,

got a great rifle that has a muzzle brake on it unfortunately. i have not gotten around to having it cut off yet, but need to hunt with it this weekend as it is the only one with a scope that I know for sure is up to snuff. If I wrap the damnable brake with electrical tape will it keep me from going deaf on the off chance that I get a shot at something?

I don't know of anyone around here that takes off their muzzlebrake. When out hunting I have never noticed any difference after the shot between a rifle with a brake and one without. Maybe it is just the heat of the moment? I wouldn't take mine off my .300 RUM for anything; but if you really want it off I would do it right and have a cap made before you take it off. Skip the Red Green stuff!!

Well it doesn't turn off. I think it is a well done job, sure works for taking out recoil. but I am not really sensitive to recoil so not worried about it. I bought the rifle for the wife but she doesn't like it so I stole it (unfortunately I like shooting the shorter stocked rifle so much I am going to have to cut length off most my rifles I think). I am going to have it cut off and the barrel recrowned. It is on my list of projects to take care of. Seems the list only gets longer, never shorter, what is it with that?

PS
I think if you are going to have a removeable brake the knurled cap is the only way to go.

The primary use of on line auctions is to sell rifles with muzzle brakes and roll over combs.

Only $30.00, and worth twice that.
