Re: Rem 700 SA conversion for AR-15 mags?
Robar offered the M14 mag conversion for 700's for a short time but they stopped it about two years ago because it cost more in labor than their customers were willing to pay. I know this because I was one of those customers that wanted the conversion done on one of my 700's I had in their shop for metal coating right when they stopped offering the service.

These types of conversions that use a staggered column magazine are a one time deal because the receiver has to be modified, so there is no going back if you change your mind later on.

Like the others, I have seen the M-14 mag converted rifles. I also read about, I think in Precision Shooting magazine, an AR15 mag conversion. I don't remember who does or did it. It was few years ago.

H&S Precision offers a magazine conversion but it uses their botom metal and magazines and defiantely is not cheap. But it is a good reliable system that does not alter your rifle.

I believe Mo Defina in CT does these for across the course target rifles.

I used to frequent an automotive speed shop back in my youth and the guy had a sign over the counter that said: "Speed costs money...how fast do you want to go?"

I'm sure you could find quite a few smiths that could do this conversion for you but you better be prepared to get your check book ready!

Not to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong...but why in the world would you need or want a 16" barreled, suppressed, bolt action rifle with a high capacity magazine???

Thanks for the input. I'll look up Mo Defina. I could do it myself, but I was hoping there might already be a replacement triggerguard setup where all I need to do is relieve a bit under the rails.

since I already have an AAC Cyclone in 30 cal, I thought it would be interesting to make a bolt gun chabered in 300 Whispe..oops, I meant 300 x 221 Fireball. I'd like a 10" or 12" barrel, but I'll keep this one 16.25" so I don't need to register it. The AR mag idea is just a thought. I think 20 rounders will fit well, without sticking out too far. Then its a quick reload, with plenty of rounds to play with. Nothing is finalized, this is just brainstorming. Thanks

Can't help with the conversion. I do however have a 700 Adl in 300x221 Fireball with an 18.5" threaded barrel. It makes a great little coyote and close range deer round. I'll be glad to pass on any info if you need it.

Leitner Wise made that conversion and had it on display at the 2002 shot show. We entertained the idea of building blind-box trigger guards for him, but I don't think anything really materialized on the subject.

Here's their website.

You might ask them if they are still making that mod.

Why not just get an M16/Ar15 upper in 221/300. That is what I use. It is the cat's meow in full auto. I use a handload with 240 grain sierra bullets. They are barely subsonic and will cycle the action. Here is a pic. The suppressor is a Gem-tech with a bi-lock.

Only in The US
What a machine all you need is M203 and some rails to the neat stuff
If that stuff was legal in Denmark I would have one in a hart beat.

Cheers,
