<ppromxman>bedding compound / synthetic stock
I have done most of my own bedding, but I recently picked up one of the new Remington mountain rifles with what appears to be a synthetic (as opposed to composit) material stock.
Does anyone know what would probably be the better material to bed it with, or would the old reliable accra gel or something similar, probably be the way to go? I am really not sure on this one.
thanks for any assistance
Paul

<Daryl Elder>Some of that new plastic is kind of greasy feeling and you must provide a base for the glas to stick to such as small, shallow holes or just gouge out small bits with a chisel. Even coarse sandpaper will work sometimes. Clean it well(degrease) and rough it up is all I can suggest.

<Don G>It has been suggested several times on this forum to use a PVC/ABS pipe cleaner/primer that is used to prepare the pipe for glue. Look for one without that nasty purple die, as it is a bitch to clean off!
I have used the "mechanical interlock" method described by Daryl with good success, I clean the bed before and after with toluene or acetone. (I think the cleaner/primer mentioned above is acetone and/or MEK.)
I used a small ball mill on a Dremel to dig many small holes that widened under the surface to form the mechanical lock after the epoxy dries.
I like DevCon for the ABS plastic stocks, and have also used JB Weld and MarineTex.

<gone hunting>clean with the PVC cleaner listed above and then use Devcon Plastic Welder Epoxy
it's not rock hard like JB or Marine Tex so it will flex with the stock instead of cracking

<Daryl Elder>Degreasing is easiest with an aerosol variant, I've found. In my trade we used it quite a lot for cleaning electrical things. No muss, no fuss. Just spray and a quick(it evaporates quickly) wipe to remove residue. It's something like a trichloro-something-or-other.

tsturmBrownells STEEL BED works fantastic!
Like the other guys said, make a mechanical lock & Degrease well!!
