LongbobHow much torque on the action screws?
I finally found a torque wrench in inch pounds at Home Depot. I'm considering going through all of my rifles and rechecking the torque on the action screws. What do you recommend? Does each manufacturer recommend a different setting? Need some imput.

<sure-shot>It depends if your rifles are pillar-bedded, wood stock or synthetic, action type etc.

LongbobI have wood and my synthetics are McMillan. None are pillar bedded to my knowledge.

<stans>Racer's rule of thumb: Torque it down until you strip the threads, then back it off 1/2 turn.

Bob338Remington recommends 40 in/lbs front and rear, whether wood or plastic. Winchester recommends "minimum 25 in/lbs" front and rear with the middle screw just tight enough to stay in. Same whether wood or plastic. People who pillar bed use 65 in/lbs. I think 50 in/lbs is enough.
