My Savage 110 in .308 has a quirk about it. When you cycle through a magazine the third shell doesn't get picked up by the bolt. Does anyone else have this problem? Since the rifle is a PUSH FEED I'm thinking that the magazine must have some flaw. Perhaps a weak spring?

It has done this ever since I bought it. It is not heavily used and I got a good deal on it. I haven't used the rifle in awhile but all this talk about feeding problems got me wondering.

Feeding trouble is common with the 4 savages I have along with the 4or5 my friends own. We use them for varmit hunting so it is much of a problem then. I wouldn't use one as a big game rifle.

The only time I have seen one fail to feed is if you push the cartridge too far forward in the magazine. I always pull my cartridges back as I load them, with no problems.

One of those Savage "quirks" that some, not all, Savage repeater bolt rifles exhibit. The cure:

Option #1: Make dang sure you have the bolt all the way to the rear ... sounds funny but fixes 50% of the reported failures to feed ;D.

Option #2 (not implemented yet) Folks over on another board are taking 3 rifles to Savage in person to show them this. We believe it is the "Z" spring they use. At different compression loads it swings the fornt or back of the loading ramp up or down.

Option #3: Someone on Group Therapy @ XtremeAccuracy replaced the stock mag spring with one of the "A"-shaped (scissors) spring that the Browning A-Bolt rifles use ... problem solved .
