My custom .416Rigby
My rifle is in its final stages now.
I haven't had a good nights sleep for weeks!

I asked my gunsmith to send me some pics of the stock, which has just come back from the stocker.

Photos not great, but give an dea as to what it will look like.

Enjoy

Buffalo horn forend.
Ronald Wharton is responsible for the action.
It started life as a cz action, however he has turned it into an absolute dream...
These pics were taken just before it goes off to the finisher for it to be oiled and chequered.
The recoil pad is going to be a traditional leather covered pad.
Holland and Holland Q/D mounts. Ronald makes the mounts for H&H in London!
I now have to decide re. engraving etc. Any suggestions most welcome.

I believe it is Turkish walnut of a variety similar to Circassian. I have seen some of it labelled "circassian". Whether or not true Circassian comes ONLY from the Caucases in Russia is the subject of some debate between wood suppliers, even though the Turkish "Circassian" walnut seems to be pretty much the same as the Russian variety (which I understand is pretty rare these days).

Anyway, that rifle is certainly beautiful!

Wow ... simply breathtaking!

Keep the engraving rational ... just a little understated. Sits better over time.

if you go to the firearms engravers guild website they have on there galleries of many of the engravers work, good place to see some pictures of what can be done and how it comes out.

i think gold inlayed chambering/maker etc. is good, engravings of the animals appropriately hunted with it, that kind of thing. just my opinion, that's what I think looks good, not the full coverage or full inlay. some just come out too gaudy.

That is going to be a jaw-dropper.

How do leather covered pads hold up? Do they last the life of the rifle, or are they something that require replacement after time?

They hold up pretty well.
I personally like them more once they have seen some use - don't like seeing anything that looks too new!

The rifle should be finished in the next couple of days....

Any updates? I'd love to see the finished rifle and maybe the ones your family members had done as well. Thanks.

Yes, please post updates on your outstanding rifle! That stock is beautiful clap

One of the reasons I love AR is the custom rifle builds posted. Great stuff.

There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!
