I have a M70 Heavy Varmint Push feed that has a very aggressive ejector. It pushes the fired brass too hard and early which causes it to hit under the front receiver ring denting the case mouth.
This is not good for accuracy nor case life. I have removed the ejector (really not needed) but I want to be sure the unsupported brass where the ejector WAs will not cause a problem?

Do you really think a spring loaded plunger actually supports brass?
No you don't. It won't matter. Look at bolt faces that have a slot for a blade ejector; they don't cause any problems.
Shoot it.

It's still only supported by a spring.

Get some milder spring stock or cut 2 coils off your spring and re-try.

The ejector spring on the later M70's is quite strong exerting 8-9lb of pressure on the ejector pin. According to some users this loading can be reduced by 50% to make ejection of cases less severe.
To retain the ejector parts, just change to a lighter spring as Bobster suggests.
