RUSTY75Pre 64 model 70 : can one be built from misc parts?
Was wondering if someone was able to gather the misc parts of a pre 64 model 70 over time from different sources(nothing matching) would it be possible to assemble a complete rifle ? Primarily interested if a mismatched bolt and reciever would work together (properly headspaced by gunsmith) or if its a crapshoot on parts working out.
Thanks

richjIt's done all the time... to make Super Grades. Buyer beware

RUSTY75I would be doing it strictly for a shooter grade rifle. Not interested on collector value.

dpcdThey usually work out ok, but a gunsmith can't do much to "headspace" them if it doesn't come out right. Unless it is too tight, then you can ream the chamber more. If too loose, you can set the barrel back one turn. But finding parts is next to impossible now; might find an action and a barrel separately.

SR4759There was a .375 action offered here several years ago. It had been mostly bead blasted and it had no springs....
When you find one offered with a funky finish or bead blasted and no springs be aware that the action was probably burned in a house fire.
