Does anyone have...
A Boss, a muzzle break, or even a thread protector, or some such for a barrel? The barrel I have was threaded for something, and I don't really want to cut the threads off & recrown. Caliber is 7mm. The threads are 28 tpi, with a major dia of about .500 inch. So I guess it's threaded 1/2 inch 28. Even if it's a larger-caliber gizmo, I can still cut it down to make a thread protector. Thanks,,,,,,,,Bug.

Let me know your od...I have some pieces and parts (brakes and thread protectors) left over from when we were a KDF installation center.

it's a simple thing for a man with a lathe to make.....get it cold blued and walla.....your threads are protected.

Unless you just specifically want a break, I'd follow vapodog's advice and get a machinist to hook you up. When my father first got his Weatherby Accumark and got instantly tired of the brake he found a local machinist and had the guy make a stainless extension that threaded on to the end of the barrel. When it was done it looked absolutely perfect, like it came that way from the factory.

Thanks Forrest!
Just happened to luck into having something somebody needs for a change. We used to be an installation center for KDF and ended up with leftovers. Still have a few brakes and thread protectors around...collecting a lot of dust!

I appreciate all your thoughts.

Jim, the address has been sent in a PM.

A machinist would be a solution, but we are trying to do this project on a shoestring. Having something custom made would prolly cost more than we have in the whole project!

Who knows, Maybe Jim will hook us up with a brake AND a thread protector! Well, I can dream, can't I?

Bug,
I have a muzzle brake that came off a 30 cal barrel with what I beleive are the threads you need, 1/2 x 28. It's aluminum and might be of use as is or could be turned down for a thread protector. I have no use for it, if you still have a need let me know and I'd be happy to send it gratis. thomasg@stewart.army.mil

Jim,
The thread proctector was received, in fine shape. I had to finagle a light inside chamfer on the rear face. No hill for a stepper. It fits purt'near purfect! Thank you, ever so much.

50 Calshtr,
Thanks, but I have a go with this one. I'll file the info away, should I find the need again.

You guys are the greatest!
