hoss101Savage 99 trigger
Is there any way to improve the trigger on a Savage model 99? This beautiful little rifle (20 inch 99A in .250 Savage) takes both hands to pull the trigger. Pull weight is way off my trigger scale, it's gotta be 10 lbs+. It's the heaviest trigger I've ever tried to use. It does break like the preverbial glass rod, although it is a very thick glass rod. Is there anyone who knows how to fix these?

Chuck NelsonI don't think you can safely adjust these triggers.

<G.Malmborg>Hoss101,
Yes this can be done. I have had excellent results reworking these triggers. It takes some reshaping and polish to achieve a good crisp pull and as always, should be done by someone familiar with this style of trigger.
Good luck,
Malm

<manhasset>hoss,
if you can get ahold of Roy Dunlap's 1974 book "Gun Owners Book of Care, Repair and Improvement" put out by Outdoor Life/ Harper & Row
it shows step by step with a photo layout whats involved in improving the Savage 99 trigger.

Chuck NelsonI stand corrected, I just read that you can't adjust a lever action rifles trigger.

<JBelk>Chuck--
There's no such thing as "can't", but many writers don't know that.
Many times it's not *practical* or *economical* to do something, but Monster Garage and Junkyard Wars has proven if there's a will there's a way.

500grainsI thought that a long, hard, creepy trigger pull was just part of Savage 99 culture. I am glad to learn that I am wrong.
I have a dozen or so of 1899 Savs, you will find a vast dif in trigger pulls, for the most part they are very good. Don't forget they are hunting rifles not Target rifles.

John Y CannuckIf you're looking for a bolt gun tigger, I doubt you'll get it, but it's worth a shot.
The book mentioned above is a good one, I got mine from Amazon.com for five bucks.
There are several variants of '99 triggers. Be aware that some are much different.
