Re: 460 Wby on a Savage
I've seen one in 338 Lapua, which has the same rim diameter as the 416 Rigby, so this is at least possible. HTH - Dan

I think the action is strong enough, but I would be concerned over the pin that holds the bolt face to the bolt.

But they are supposed to be very strong, they have a good sized lugs and the actions are pretty stiff.

I'd want to start with at least the large shank Savage. With the arrival of the RUMS and WSM's, Savage changed to a nominal 1 1/8th shank on those rifles (and a CRF style bolt to ensure feeding).

Using the small 1.055" shank would make me rather nervous with a case as large as the 460. As a matter of fact, the larger shank would still make me nervous. JMO, Dutch.

Does anyone know about a Savage action ever being used to build a rifle for a 460 Wby based cartridge -- 30/378, 338/378, 378, 416, 460 Wby or 500 A-Square ?

Could have been a repeater or a single shot.

This is not a question concerning a dangerous game rifle or a practical hunting rifle, but as an experimental tool.
