Savage99I would buy the "M 70" replacement kit. This way you also replace the trigger, extractor, ejector, brazed on bolt lug section, safety, brazed on-non keyed bolt handle and get CRF too!

KurtCThis is not meant to condone the purchase or use of a Remington product, but I once had Gentry install one of his shrouds on a full stock Model 7 in .350 Mag. I was very please with his product.
(Sadly, I eventually disassembled the rifle for cleaning, and couldn't believe what Remington was passing off as a "rifle").

I have one of the aluminum ones from Midway. It was put on as a replacement after I put the original one in the lathe. Peeled it like a banana. This is what happens when I try to make things ultra light. The sad thing is it took two times to learn my lesson.
Any way Im not real sure that the J-lock bolt plug can be replaced with a non J-lock. Midway also sells a complete firing pin assembly as a replacement. This way you dont have to remove the bolt plug from the firing pin. This can be a real pain in the butt with out the right tools.
Good luck

hm2i fill the hole with a plug. remove the old jlock, turn a plug of the proper material to press fit in the hole. machine the relief for the cocking piece and refinish with the rest of the gun. this is for the complete rebuild. otherwise purchase the right parts and convert the bolt to pre jlock configuration.
