I don't know the ins and outs of sending your rifle here to the US...but Robar's NP3 coating looks just exactly like Satin finished stainless steel and it is very durable as it actually impregnates the metal rather than just coating it.

I have three Remington 700's that have the bolts and internals coated with this finish.

From what I read and heard, Roabar's coating are pretty much the ultimate but I can only imagine the logistic and expence of shipping my rifle on your side of the border.

What are your guys experience with nickel plating?? Pros and cons? I guess it must depend on who does it.

I've always liked the look of stainless/synthetic in a rifle but always seem to get the deals on wood/blue guns. I have a Winchester M70 in 7mm Rem Mag wood/blue that I would like to transform. I just got a new take off synthetic stock from a poster on AR (I know it's a Tupperware stock, but it should do for now). Now it really looks plain, black on black. I know that they are many fancy coating for rifles now (rogard, NP3, ect..) that are better than electroless nickel plating but as far as I know, nobody in Canada offers those fancy coating. What do you guys think about electroless nickel? I've heard mixed reviews. Some say you can't tell the difference from a stainless rifle and it's very resistant. Other said that it chips and turns yellow after a while. Anybody knows any gunsmith that offers coating for rifles in Canada? What about BC? Any suggestions?

A local shop here (Ottawa) does nickel plating for a few dollars a part. Not sure what type or process they use but I am getting some parts done and will find out.

Nope. But there is an outfit in BC that is putting a Teflon coating on guns. And I know a shop here in edmonton that does electroless nickle on guns (I've had some work done there, turned out pretty well). - Dan

Is that a good thing?? You said it's pretty thick, does it cover the engraving? How sharp does it look on edges? You wouldn't happen to have any pictures. On the web site it only shows the results on flat pieces of metal, kinda hard to tell how it would look on a rifle. Thanks for your input.

I just looked up Corlane's web site, the powder coating sounds interesting (different colours and the price is good). When I think powder coating I think truck bumper and things like that. Powder coating is tougher than regular paint but isn't it still pretty easy to scratch? Anybody has any experience with powder coating on hunting rifles??
