I had saved a post by Allen Day that described in detail the steps to rework a model 70 safety, but lost it in the last upgrade. I can't find it now. If anyone has that link, could you please post it here.

Just what in particular are you trying to rework on the safety?

I have a couple of rifles that I'd like to get the safeties to work smoother.

I believe that my gunsmith called it timing the safety.

One of the same gunsmiths that Allen Day used.

One of the more common jobs to show up at my shop regarding Winchester 70's is making the safety engage more smoothly and more quiet.

Contact Mark Penrod he has done 5 Model 70 for me. Excellent work, the triggers and safety work great.

I remember a post by Mr. Day but it did not contain any technical details. I made a mental note that Mr. Echols mills a vertical groove in the right side of the bolt sleeve so that when the safety is flipped foward the end of the safety lever falls over the groove instead of slapping (click) the side of the sleeve.

The post that I remember was a checklist of procedures that the Echols Co. did to bring an action up to their level of quality. Indexing, truing, checking, correcting or perfecting.

Edit: I may have confused a post made here by an employee of the Echols Co., I do remember the vertical groove though.
