Rem BDL 270 rebarrel to 25-06 BDL take-off...[revised]
I picked up Rem 700 BDL 25-06 24" take-off barrel with <200 rounds through the classifieds and would like to re-barrel my Rem BDL 270...

This is a hunting rifle...

In all what needs to be done...don't know many good smiths out here in Hawaii and I'm going to try one I just heard about...

I want to be sure he covers everything....LOL

Trying to get educated here so when he talks I'll know what he's talking about... bewildered

Can anyone educate me? Wink

Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

He'll have to screw in the new barrel to see where the lettering & sight screws (if any) come up. Then he'll calculate how much to face off the shoulder & breach face to get it to clock in right. Then cut the chamber to proper depth. In all, not too difficult.

That's about it.....and in the end you have a .25-06 for about $200 less than you could have had a .25-06 AND a .270. Smiler

Well I do have a spare Savage 111 30-06 rifle I have no use for....

Is it possible or worth it cost-wise to rebarrel it to the SAVAGE instead?

May want to go that route and keep the Brand new Rem 270w as is.... Big Grin

What ya folks think...

Can do, or no can do without alot of work, or same-same????

Thanks again!!!

Hmmm....

I believe what Vapodog is saying is by the time you add the cost of the barrel to the labor to rebarrel you could have added a few $$ and simply bought a used 25-06 and then had a 270 and 25-06.

You would still be $$ ahead to sell the 270 rifle and buy a 25-06 rifle.

To me the cost of labor just doesn't justify saving a $ to use a take off barrel.

As usual just my $.02

I have bought two M-70 push feed rifles lately for #350 each.....

Rebarreling can run more than that!
