Scope Question
I have a 30-30 Marlin Lever Gun that I want to put a scope on. I would like a short scope with not much magnification. It also has to be some what inexpensive , seeing how this gun stays behind the seat for the truck. Would a shotgun scope work for this? Or would the recoil of the 30-30 tear it apart? Thanks for any help.

I can't speak to the recoil question, but I put a shotgun scope on my wife's 10/22. Like a lot of people our age, it is hard for her to see the rear sight with open sights. The shotgun scope is 2.5X, and very light. It makes a very nice compromise--easy to acquire the target, quick to get on it.

DB Bill
The Weaver 1x3 variable is on sale at a variety of mail-order shops for $99.00.

DB Bill is on the right track. The Weaver, or maybe a used 2.5 Compact Leupold would be perfect on your Marlin. If you can find an old K2.5 or K3 Weaver in good shape, they would also work like a charm.

Almost any shotgun recoils more than a 30-30, so you have no problem there.

Loupold an Burris make fine,low-power variables that are ideal for a lever gun, but,if you want to keep the cost down, there is NOTHING better then an older Weaver K2.5.One can be picked up pretty cheap at a gunhow, and there is an outfit in El Pso,Texas that will recondition it for a reasonable fee.
Good luck

I agree that there a lot of excellent lower power scopes currently being manufactured and in about any price range you want.

Interesting the K3 Weavers mentioned. I just happen to have an old "Made in the USA" Weaver K3-C3 (heavy tapered center post and a thin horizontal wire) that is all ready to go on a Stainless and Synthetic 22" 444Mar. Only problem is the fine folks at Marlin have NEVER made that model yet. But it is here waiting and will go on the first one I can get my hands on "IF" they ever make it.

May just panic and put it on one of their Stainless and Wood 30-30s next year.
