GOOD SMITHS in MI
I have used one or tow out of state but would like to find on in state. I have used Answer CO. and well never again SO... If others know of a good smith for some re-barreling work would like to hear some input.

I have 2 "one man shops" for you to consider, both have been making there living doing repairs (not sales) for over 30 years. They are both excelent, bt they also have a lot of work inhouse so 6-9 month delay is to be expected.
One is Bruce McArthur @ Flint-N-Frizzen in Clarkston (Dixie Hwy just north of I-75), and the other is Al Seigrest @ Seigrest Machine in Prescott.

I can second Al Seigrist as excellent. He has built a couple of rifles for me, and re-bored another. If you want it done, and done right, he will do it.

Steve:

Bruce at 'Flint & Frizzen', as the name suggests, deals primarily in BP guns. In fact when I was in his shop 3 mo. ago, he told me that he was NOT working on anything but original BP cartridge guns or original Muzzle loaders.

Al Siegrist, I can highly recommend. He rebored a barrel for me some years ago and I was highly pleased with the results.

D&D gunsmiths in Royal Oak gets Fair++ to excellent. Just depends on what day. At least he has his own bluing tanks.

Williams Gunsight in Davidson is in the same category as 'Answer'. Which is a shame considering the top quality work they USED to turn out years ago. I can tell you horror stories about both.

That's pretty much it for the Southeasten section of the state. Maybe there are some others that I overlooked.

The two that I used to use and would trust with anything from a Purdey Double on down to a Savage, have closed their doors in the last two years........A sad commentary.

Whittemore, MI 48770

I know we all say Prescott, and his address says Whittemore. Truth is you can't get there from Whittemore (road dosn't go thru) so you have to go thru Prescott.

Oaklane,
Don't let the name Flint & Frizzen fool you, Bruce has rebarreled three rifles for me,repaired my Superposed once and most recently did some accuracy work on my .45 When he got finished with it, it puts them all in one small group.I almost forgot,he repaired my model 41 Smith
He is also involved in the .405 Cheyenne rifle project, he makes the muzzle brakes for them.
Here is a guy that built a rifle from scratch starting with a piece of chromemoly tubing. He made me a set of dies once, complete with a carbide sizer.
I'm thinking a gunsmith that worked on strictly black powder guns would starve. His # is 248-625-3333. Parker Ackley was one of his instructors in college.

Is Oakland Custom Arms of Waterford, Mi. still around? A local shop in my neck of the woods recommended his bluing jobs a while back.
Thanks,
Bob

Manhsset:
Oakland Custom Arms, aka Mike Stitt went out of business two years ago. he was one of the two that I mentioned that I used for everything. Timber Wolf Sports aquired all Mike's equipment, Lathes, mills, bluing tanks, and a 100 or so reamers everything but the stock blank duplicator. He is so backlogged I didn't mention him.

Stepchild:
I stand corrected. I was only going by what Bruce told me himself three months ago. Maybe he did'nt like my looks or just didn't want to be bothered with additional work at that time.
