Stripping the finish from a laminated stock
I have a 17/222 built on a SAKO action. It has a laminated stock. My best guess is it was built in the late sixties or early seventies. My question is do I need to be careful as to the type of stripper I use or will anything be ok? I dont want to use something that will affect the laminate glue.

A good liquid stripper should do. To be sure, remove the butt plate and try a small bit of stripper there to test.

Some of these finishes are very tough. I have found Certistrip to work well. Browning and Remington have some particularly difficult finshes on certain firarms. I would try a commercial stripper first. Wear some gloves and use some steel wool to work stripper.
