S&W M29-2 cylinder indexing/missfire
After firing, the cylinder rotates backward. On the next shot, the fired case is hit again, missfiring. This only happens on recoil. Does not happen dry firing. How do i fix this. New hand, spring or what. Thank you for your help. 243winxb@mynra.com

Immediately advise the Customer Service people at Smith & Wesson. They may repair it for free --or for a very nominal charge.

Suggest you get their telephone number and call them about this.

I had this happen to mine back in the 80's. Basically, three things can cause this; 1-excess end-shake, 2-cylinder stop spring is not strong enough, 3-the very front of the cylinder stop (as opposed to just the top)is contacting the cylinder and causing it to unlock during recoil. Smith was aware of this and made some design changes in the late 80's. You definately need to return it to the factory with a detailed explanation and they will take it from there.

Good Luck,
