Mod 70 pre 64 vs post for stock fit
Is there a problem using a post 64 stock on a pre 64 .375 h&h Model 70?
Thanks

Only the fact that it doesn't fit.

Another option is eBay and find a good used standard stock and have a smith open up the mag well. I think it is about 3/16" for the mag IIRC.

Thanks for the reply. I have a pre64 that I bought a post mag. 70 on Ebay as I didn't want to use the old wood because of the possiblity of cracking. I also wanted to keep the old stock in an unmodified condition. I just was wondering how much modification I will have to do and if its possible.

The recoil lugs are in a different spot. It's pretty major surgery to convert one to other. I did it once and probably will avoid doing so again. It's a much better idea to just get the right stock........................DJ

I have a relatively cheap solution for you. I bought this stock for a project that I then sold the metalwork for. Its for a pre-64. There is some sap on the other side on the butt portion, but the butt is thick enough that I think it will work out. $200 shipped.

22WRF, Thanks for the offer. I talked to my gunsmith and he said he will install the post 64 with little problem. I should have the stock in 3-4 days. If he changes his mind I will Email you.
