Heat treatment services
I have learned that there is some real sharp fella's that post here, so I hope to get some info. I would like to send a couple Mausers and Enfields out to be re-heat treated (welded on or a maybe soft 09')and was wondering if any of you have had experiences with having this done and what an average cost for this service might be? Kuhnhausen mentions one firm in his book and someone on a thread mentioned Pacific Metallurgical Inc., maybe there is others? Thanks

Well naturally after I post this question I look in the Resorces post and see the heat treatment postings. Sorry I didn't check first. Still like to know what kind of costs are involved.

I had Pac Met do an '09 Arg action and bolt in 2005, cost was $85, less shipping. Turnaround at the time was a week or so.

How did it turn out for you?

They came out fine as follows:

Bolt - 47HRC(83.9JHR15N), VCD .012"
Receiver - 36HRC(78.3HR15N), VCD .012"

I didn't have the hardness checked before treating, I had it done as insurance. Maybe one of our resident metallurgist guys will explain exactly what the numbers mean.
