Bob MehaffeyNite sights for pistols
Has anyone had expirience with Meprolight True Dot night sightes for pistols. What would you recommend if not Meprolight? I'm ignorant as a post about nite sightes and need help. Thanks,

waturzBob,
I would highly recommend the Tru-glo Tritium Fiber Optic night sights. The combination of fiber optic with tritium ensures that you have the same sight picture (greed dots) in both light and dark. These sights make the transition from a light room to a dark room and vice versa much easier from a sight picture standpoint.
I use these on Glock pistols and I think that there are other versions available. Good Luck!

waturzThe previous post should read Green Dots. Sorry!

54JNollI have the standard Mepro;ight Night Sights on three pistols now. I like them real well. I have not tried the Trijicon sights which seems to be what most night sights are compared to.
I have not noticed any problem going from light to darkened conditions.

MolonLabe416The Meps and Trijicons are both good-to-go. I have a slight prefernece for the Meps on the Glock platform b/c they are slightly bigger.
In re fiber optics. Good idea for target shooting, bad choice for anything that might see rough handling such as personal defense or hunting. I've never seen a set get through a 3 day defensive pistol class without failing (I take multiple classes each year).

I have been experimenting with the Crimson Trace
Laser grips on a couple of handguns.
So far I like them. They were really handy when I shot at a mover [moving target] at low light in LA a few weeks back.

Tony, have you played with the lasers in a rain? You get a red dotted line to your target, kind of neat.
I have IWI night sights on three 1911s. Using the red/green combo.

lawndartNO LASERS ON A CARRY GUN.
ONLY TRITIUM AT NIGHT.
Trijicon and Meprolight are a wash. Meprolight is bigger, Trijicon is tougher.

joe25/06Bob,
I see you are in Tx..Why not look at XS sights out of Ft. Worth? Their big dot tritium is really a neat sight with instant sight pick up in stress situations. Their phone number is 888-744-4880, or 817-536-0136. Talk to Bo their gunsmith, and he can give you the info on their sights.

BlueprintedI like to use a front tritium sight and a standard rear. You can pick it up real fast for two legged predators. IMO that is all you need for point shooting (inside 15 yards). A trit front and a streamlight laser/flashlight combo is tough to beat. That dot is sure a big big advantage for mental control of a bad guy. In low light one sight is easier to pick up.The light, illuminates your sights enough you do not need the tritium. That said smoke, rain fog give away your position with a laser. BEST IMO is Trijicon. They are smaller, but last longer and seem brighter ( I have gone through several sets of both). Bottom line they are both excellent sights you will not go wrong with either, my off duty is a Glock 27 with Meps and my carry gun is a 21 with Trij. If this is a self defense gun, pratice practice practice shooting, drawing and retention.
