Model 70 Post´64 bolt question
Hi there. Have recently purchased this Model 70 Post´64, re-barreled with a bull barrel in 7-08mm. The rifle belonged to a recently deceased friend and his now widow sold me the gun.

Everything is fine with it, except that the bolt lacks the breech´s bolt sleeve lock, it´s spring and also the retaining pin.

Question is, Could this had be done for some unknown reason on purpose? And, Is this a safe shooting situation?

I´m now looking for the missing parts, anyway.

Thanks in advance

R. Gonzalez

well....not a good reason that I can tell.

It prevents the shroud from rotating when the bolt is open....you can shoot without it as a bench gun if you're careful to not rotate the shroud accidently when the bolt is open.

I definitely needs to be replaced if you plan any hunting with it!.....and should be replaced anyway!

Thanks for the reply.

As I said, I´m currently looking for the missing parts; but, being this a target rig, I´m not planning on taking it to the hunting grounds, but just only for competition purposes.

Thanks again.

Regardless, it should be replaced. If nothing more than to avoid the PITA problem when you least want it to happen.
