Barrel Fluting
I have a target barrel on Ruger 77/22 I wont to have fluted to reduce weight. Does anyone know someone who does this type of work

You want someone who knows what they are doing and you can figure on spending around $150 to get it done. Go to www.benchrest.com and look under "gunsmiths" on the left...there are several in Alabama. The fellow who I think is best is named Skip Otto, a machinist, and if you put a message for him on the board I'm sure he will reply.

BT, for the cost of fluting, you could replace that barrel with a new, fluted one. In order to shed REAL weight, flutes must be quite deep and wide... most of the fluting done by, say, Remington is purely cosmetic. Weatherby on the other hand drops some real weight with their flutes. There are a lot of good "drop-in" barrels that are fluted for the 77-22.
