Muzzle diameter for #3 contour on 22" barrel.
What diameter should that normally be? Thanks.

Some where between 0.625" and 0.65", probably closer to 0.625. If you asked Douglas to produce a finished #3 contour sporter at 22" it would likely be about 0.625", as opposed to hacking off the 24" barrel to 22".

A Douglas Stainless XXX Premium "air guaged" .375 caliber barrel that I have on my 375 H&H is their #3 contour. It is 0.625" at the muzzle at 24", so it would be a little thicker than that if I backed up two inches on the sporter contour to make the 22" point measure. Don't have it handy at the moment.

Different barrel makers have different muzzle diameters for the various contours offered.
A #3 for one maker may not be a #3 for another. Read the brochure and ask questions.

leo,
DB Bill is correct, but some barrel makers actually do share the same system in contouring. There are so many different barrel makers but no official standard brought down from the mountain by Moses. My statement is an approximation, as Douglas is pretty average in their contours. One can look in a Brownell's catalog and compare the Douglas and Shilen contours listed for a start.
