interarms 30-06
I found a interarms 30-06 bolt action rifle in a local shop for $299. the rifle is in good shape, I dont need it but are these actions worth messing with I thought a 6.5-06 maybe or if it shoots good just leaving it for a all around hunting gun.
all I see on the action with out being able to take it out of the stock is interarms alexanderia virginia. what do you guys think of these actions. I like the idea of having controled feed for a huntin rifle. other than its a mauser and may be a yogo action I dont know anything of the quality of action I assume it was made in the 80s so should be strong enough for what ever I can chamber it for with trat bolt face.
I would appreciate any help thanks jeremy

They are a good commercial style action patterned after the FN. It should make a fine 6.5-06.

I've got one in 308, nice rifle, no complaints. $299 sounds like a pretty good price to me.

about the only thing I don't like about them is the side safety. Probably because I am used to the safeties on the Model 70. If you can live with it then I think your getting a good deal. If you can't, then its going to cost you $200 minimum to replace the safety and now you have $500 into the gun, at which point you might just as well buy a used Model 70 classic winchester.

Except that you still have a model 70 classic and not a Mauser. Big Grin

The price you paid was a good one. As to replacing the safety, yes, if you want a model 70 style it can cost from $150 to $350. But, no one said you HAD to get a 3 position safety. The Timmney version of the Buehler safety is about $25 and many find it more than adequate.

The price is right . They are a quality action and barrel and most of them shoot very well. Before you re-barrel it try it with some lighter weight bullets. I'll bet you decide to keep it as-is.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship
