GrenadierWhat barrels, if any, will work with SAKO action?
I recently purchased a SAKO L691 action. I plan to have a rifle built to try out an idea I have. I found a new-old-stock Bell and Carlson stock that it fits perfectly. I now need a barrel. Is there a take-off barrel from Winchester M70, Remington 700, or some other rifle that can be modified for use with the SAKO action? Is it feasible to cut the threads off a pre-threaded heavy barrel and re-thread it for the SAKO?

Jim KobeWhy Phuque around with a take-off barrel. For the money you put into a great action don't put a cheap barrel on it.

GrenadierWell I said take-off barrel but what I have in mind is a new barrel. I see Kreiger, PacNor, Hart, Lilja, etc. pre-threaded barrels for sale. I can't find one for the SAKO. So I am wondering if I can use one made for another action or, perhaps, if one can be cut and re-threaded for the SAKO.
I have a Shilen on my Sako AV, A gunsmith can thread any of the barrels you mentioned.

kcstottRemington and weatherby have the same thread pitch and slightly larger thread diameter.
You could buy a pre threaded barrel and turn it back to fit.
But as stated I think you will spend the same amount of money to fix a pre threaded barrel as to use a contoured blank.

Lar45I've compiled a short list on barrel threads.
I don't know if there are any errors in it, but here it is.
It looks like the sako is a 1x16.
Ruger M77, Win M70 might be worth looking into.

NakihunterI got a Sako L61R re-barrelled with a Douglas barrel in 280 Ackley Imp & it is a great rifle.
I would not bother with a re-worked old threaded barrel. You are better off even getting a new pre-threaded Lothar Walther barrel.
