safarihunterCustom Bases for Win Model 70
I remember reading here about a year or two ago about someone manufacturing custom bases that will use Talley rings. The bases when installed almost looked like an integral part of the receiver as I recall.
I can't do better than that on the description. At that time, I thought they were a great looking set of bases and filed it away for when I may be having another rifle built.
I appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction.

22WRFI don't know who it was that you read about custom bases, but I do know from owning his book that Mark Stratton is a master at making custom bases for almost any type of action, including the Model 70 Winchester. He uses a CAD program to make precise calculations of the radius of the front ring and the rear bridge so that his bases mate as though they grew there.

DougH9I can reccomend S & K scope mounts. I wanted a set of windage adjustable, and .380" hight rings for a pre-64 M70, and S & K & Conetrol were the only ones I could find. I put Conetrols on one rifle, and S & K on the other.
On the S & K, I asked if the could make me a rear base with the rign centered (I dislike off-set rings), and they said no problem. Made it up for me no extra charge, and I got them in a week! I like them a lot.

TC1I beleave the ones you're referring to are made by Michael Scherz who now lives near Phoenix AZ.
I have an extra pair if you want them, I'll let'em go for what I paid.

BIG SAMMark Stratton put his custom bases on my Model 70 custom .300 H&H Octagon that he built for me.
They are very classy and stylish with a nice wide base against the receiver.
