Rem 700 trigger help
I am working on my first model 700. Current trigger pull 5 lbs. Looking to reduce to 2.5 to 3 lbs and hopefully correct the "safety design problem" that many talk of on this forum. Looking at replacing the trigger with a Timney, but I see that you must use the original safety lever.
Does this Timney trigger with the original safety lever have the same problem with the safety?

Should I consider other options?

This is for hunting, not bench rest shooting. I. plan to glass bed and work up a load for it. I don't want to put a ton of money into a trigger. This is my nephews rifle. I am concerned about the safety.

Thanks

Check this out. If that don't work consider a Shilen.

Hmm, a post about triggers from trigger.

O'well
I have had no problem with the bolt comming open going through brush.
I have no problem with the two posistion safety.

My problem may be different. I don't know if my experiance is common, but the trigger on my M700 BDL from the mid seventies stopped working one day. I had not messed with the trigger! I loaded the rifle, through the bolt forward and bang the gun went off. I tried it again, Bang the gun went off.

I went home read on the internet about how the trigger is adjusted. Tried several time to adjust the trigger, but I never could get the trigger to work properly. I think a spring broke. Although Remington said if I send the the rifle they would install a new trigger, I opted to install a Timney. No issues, I didn't need to adjust anything. Works fine.

Bolt will still open on safe no matter what brand of trigger you buy. Unfortunatley walking around in thick brush the bolt handle can be opened unintentionally . I prefer it to lock in place and if you buy the Timney 3 pos safety for a 700 it will lock in place. If you have experience with a 700 trigger then you can do the sear and overtravel else just work on trigger pull weight which should take a few minutes and use a trigger scale.

I put a Shilen trigger on mine and it's a vast improvement.
