brianboRem. Mod 600 hinged floorplate?
Hi all,
My brother is having a McMillan stock put on his Rem. Mod. 600 6.5 Rem Mag. Is it possible to add a hinged floorplate and if so where would one go to get parts?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Regards,
Brian

Rick 0311Brownells sells the Heritage steel triggerguard/floorplate for Remington 600’s.
Part number is #429-600-101...just have your brother tell McMillan to order it for him.
Sorry...just looked closer and I don’t think this is a “hinged†type...but you can call and see if they also make a hinged version.

brianboThanks Rick. I was aware of that one. it's the go to if we can't find a hinged version... better than the nylon/plastic version on the original.

Brian

Rick 0311Brianbo,
You got me curious and I pulled out my copy of Bolt Action Rifles to take a look at the schematic for Model 600 rifles.
It would be pretty much impossible to have a hinged floorplate on those things because the trigger mechanism is more forward than on a 700 and the front part of the trigger guard bow sits right under the rear portion of the mag box area, so there is no unobstructed opening for the cartridges to come out the bottom portion of the rifle even if you put a hinged door on it.
Maybe that’s why no one makes one for these rifles, huh!

Jim_DubellI make hinged bottom metal for the 600, special order. I imagine other metalsmiths do so as well. That's the good news. The other side of the deal is I charge $1200 to do so, so as you might imagine people are not busting down my door to get them!!

The trigger does need to be modified as Rick noted, and the original inletting of a factory stock will not work. The trigger shoe is moved to the rear and requires the barreled action be inlet farther forward so things don't get all puddled up in the pistol grip area.

Rick 0311Jim,
After looking at the schematic of a 600 I can understand the price you charge. Basically, it looks like a hell of allot of work!

bluetickGentlemen
I have seen a piece of bottom metal that Jim built, or at least showed David Christman how to build, regardless of who made it, it is a fine piece of work. I think Mr. David will let you have it for about 4 grand. I would say all in all thats a pretty good deal. Either way is that to much to pay for something that is sure enough one of a kind.

Jim_DubellBob,
My brain isn't good enough! I can't remember if the rear action screw is 1/4" or the smaller one used on the 600's? I also do not remember seeing a 7 with plastic on it, all the ones I remember had the Rem. potmetal with the front screw covered by the floorplate. Sorry I'm no help...I do not keep up on current firearms much.

manhassetThanks Jim,
I have a S/S Model 7 and it comes with a hinged floorplate and trigger guard painted or cast in silver plastic. I wonder how long this will last with hinge pins that look like paper clips.
