enyRem 700 feeding problems
I have a new 700 AAC in 300 blackout that won't feed anything I try in it. If I put one round in the mag, it shoves the bullet up into the top of the chamber, If I have more than on round in the mag, it jams the bullet up before it leaves the rails. Is this something I can fix? Or Send it back, or get a gunsmith

speerchucker30x378Put the magazine box back in it properly.
When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

enyI've not had it out yet, are you suggesting it was put in incorrectly from the factory? will take it apart and see what I find Thank you

enyNo issues with mag box. Looks to me like wrong follower, bolt barley catches edge of case (case not up into action far enough). Am thinking it is 308 follower not 223?
06 December 2015, 01:33
speerchucker30x378The only cartridge affected by the follower is the last one. If more than one cartridge are inserted into the mag, the following cartridge becomes the follower for the one being fed. 99% of the time someone has taken the gun apart and the mag box is not installed properly. (if it's a new gun) They are tested on the line before they leave the plant in Ilion. The box must fit completely and fully into the cutout in the bottom of the receiver and the cutout in the bottom of the floor plate array to function correctly. If it's a used gun, then all bets are off. I operated as a Remington warranty and proof house depot for 15 years. That's all I got.

enyI'm with ya on all that. Can't see any problems with the mag box. Made a bunch of dummies with different bullets and fiddled with it quite a bit. If I put one round in the mag, push the bolt to chamber slowly, the bullet dies into the feed ramp, if I push the bolt at a normal speed the bullets dies into the top of the chamber. If I put several in the mag, the bolt rides up over the rim of the first round as it starts up the feed ramp. would a 308 follower let the case be off to one side farther than it should be?

I doubt it ramrod340. They load and run out the magazine a half dozen times on each gun. Then they run at least one proof round. If the gun has sights they often run a couple in the gallery. At least they used to. I've watched them do it.
Somewhere out there, a 308, 7mm-08, 260 or 243 will only hold two rounds. And none of them stay in the mag.

enyYes, brand new. cabales Sydney NB. Can promise no one has loaded the mag and ran them out. Have had it apart several times and there is no way to put it in wrong and put the rifle back together. the fit is very good. Looking at replacement mags, I noticed they have a different shape for 223 than the one in my rifle. As the cases come up they are so far off to the side (left or right depending on order), that they bind up under the feed rail as the bullet contacts the feed ramp. If you shove them past that, the go up at such an angle that they contact the top of chamber. Ordered the part, if it works great, if not can send it in. will report back.

speerchucker30x378Put up a picture of the mag box you have.
The 223 mag box and the 308 mag box are TOTALLY DIFFERENT ! 308s wont even fit in a 223 box.

enyspeerchucker, thank you for sticking with me on this. I would like to get this resolved without sending it back if possible. I see the shape of the mag box is same as mine, was hoping it was just too wide. I can honestly say that I am sure the mag box is installed correctly, it fits flush to feed rails side to side as well as front to back. The mag box will accept and hold 3 empty 250 savage cases, but there is no way to test feeding. Any more thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

enyOne thing that is different from my other Remington, is that as I push the bolt forward it pushes the follower down.

speerchucker30x378With the action out of the stock show some good pictures of how you have the mag box installed into the receiver. The box has to completely fit into the well cut into the receiver, front and back. It doesn't fit around the outside of the well.

enyI found a bullet that will feed most of the time, but it is deforming the tips.Max col is 2.260, I am at 2.185

speerchucker30x378Probably will have to get it to a gunsmith to polish the rails, bumpers and possibly radius the chamber mouth. Nothing looks obvious from the pictures.

enyThanks. to add insult to injury, at 15 inch pounds, I striped one screw putting my rail back on. On the bright side, I worked up a load today and it looks to be very accurate!

NorsemanEny,
if you are nearby Portland, send it to Allison & Carey as they do most of Remington repair and warranty work. I have mailed my M700 300 RUM to them when it wouldn't feed properly. It was mailed back within a week and a half and it fed very smooth.
23 December 2015, 03:54
enyThanks Norseman. It is feeding the sierras with the plastic tips, so I'm good for now. May look into how to polish it up myself after calving season is over.

NorsemanWhere's your ranch?

NorsemanGot any advice on where to go chukar hunting besides Bully Creek reservoir or Owyhee Reservoir?
I might head back up to Juntura.
27 December 2015, 18:50
enyany where between Harper and Juntura. Go out Hornet Rd from Harper to get on top. Crusty snow now, might be a tough drive! Need to go check it out myself in the next day or so.
