StokesHas anyone done this conversion?
I think it'd be pretty fun to take a Ruger 77/22Hornet and convert it to 5.7x28.
Getting it to feed might be tough, but maybe not insurmountable. Anyone ever tried it?

speerchucker30x378I would try feeding some out of the magazine and if they won't work I would try bastardizing a couple of mags before I ordered a barrel. In theory, it should work by milling the last 1/4inch off of the back of the feed lips. Providing the noses will still tip up without the rim on the case. It all hinges on that.

I think a CZ527 would be a better place to start. Smaller/better action with a single stack magazine. Some of the better rimfire bolt actions might work even better than that. I think the 5.7x28 is usually blowback, so a bolt action that can handle a HMR should stand up.

speerchucker30x378The 5.7×28mm actually operates at 50,000 PSI. FN had to do some very UNCONVENTIONAL tricks to make it function properly in the Five-Seven. Most blowback handguns are really not blowback at all. In truth, they use the hammer as a delayed roller bolt system. While it does not lock the action like a true roller bolt, the severe forces needed to overcome the fulcrum of the hammer actually delays operation until the bullet has pretty much left the barrel. The best examples of this are Saterday night specials like the Beretta 950 series. The Five-Seven is actually a hammerless gun if memory serves. What they did was added a non visible hammer under the barrel which would swing up and catch the back of the barrel when the gun came to battery. It provides the same delaying affect as a hammer with it's rotational point very close to the bore line but no fire control function. FN calls the part (The Cam) in their parts description. Because of the high pressures I would be very reluctant to put the 5.7×28mm into a conventional rimfire action. It would probably end up being a bomb.

Very unique way of saying what I was thinking.
He'd have to get down-right rude to get rid of me some days.
