blue prints and tools

Hi guys, it has been a while sense I have logged into AR! Busy with collage and setting up my shop!

Anyways, I was wondering if you lads could help out. I will be attempting to build my first rifle from the ground up. I am in some need for some prints or more then that direction in where to find all I will ever need.
Now I know that this is a wee bit different then machine tooling, so will there be any different tools outside my machine shop I may or will need?

Your question is TOO OPEN!! Give more specific details of what you want to make and maybe we can help you decide. Learn gunsmithing metal, stock making, general gunsmithing, or engraving for a start.

If you want to make stocks, read to topic at the top STOCKMAKER SHOW AND TELL. You can get started by making some of the hand tools needed. This was written to be a basic way to make a stock. LIKE THEY SAY "make it simple stupid". Look at the post by J.D. Steele on chisels.

I have 3 goals over this next year. To manufacture 3 reseavers. 1 Mauser, 1 Enfield, and 1 M1 or M14.

The first thing I will need are prints. Where would I be able to find them? Sense I will be starting from scratch for each I need to do my home work each of them.

Oh I just remembered that I have the prints for a winchester rolling block. Sounds like its a good one to start with. And you know there are no stamped parts!

I have prints on the M1 garand, Ar-15, Thompson SMG, and a few others, Unfortunately I do not have prints on any bolt rifle.

Let me know what you would like as these are all electronic files I can email them to you.

What kind of file are they? PDF? DWG?

Instead of looking for prints, get a good caliber and a good mic. then start measuring an original, then make it. This process is what you need in the future, as there is a lot of undocumentet stuff around, needing to be replaced.

This is a great point.

With the Asian tooling market being what it is in my line of work (Plastic Injection Mold Maker) we find ourselves doing more measuring and sketching of our own prints more than ever before fixing and doing engineering changes to the molds coming from Asia.

Thanks guys! This info is invaluable! Thank you so much! As I go I will post photos. Right now I m replacing the floor in my shop. When I got my mill in the door frame it crushed it!

Now my Wisconsin VE4 on my welder stopped working, and now my floor is on hold until I get it up and running.

James, if you do some research on the M1 Garand, you will find that John designed the rifle to be finished, from a forging, by several broaching operations rather than milling operations. Making an M1 receiver from a billet or block would be, in my opinion, a heck of a job. I guess that is why they forged them.

This guy has forging that are ready to machine into recievers, I think he even will give you the models in solid works or something like that. It might be is easy as just running the tool paths, but i dont know for sure CNC is not really my thing. if your trying to do it Manual then maybe you can get dimensions from his models

I just looked again under downloads he has solid works E drawings, solid models to load into your cad programs, and just blue prints all for free unless you want to donate.
