VZ-24 vs Persian 98/29

I was just wondering.I there a practial differnce between these two?

As I understand it they are both Brnos the same design, just made for differnt contracts?

Were VZ-24s rebuilt by the armorey and the Persians not redone?

Does one have better machining work, especially inside?

When I go trhu the old posts the VZ-24 gets recommended a lot, but the Persians not very often.They dont get put down they just don't get mentioned much.

Is it just a cost issue? The Vz-24s are genneraly less expensive and more readily avalible?

I have never seen a VZ -24 in like new condition. All I have seen are well used and most were finished at an arsenal. I have never seen a VZ-24 with a matching bolt.
All the Persians I have seen are basically new or close to it but look a bit dull from storage and handling. They have all matching parts too.

ireload2, is the machine work better or the same on the 98/29? Especially on the inside of the action.

According to Ludwig Olson both are the same save for some subtle differences. Though some of the 98/29's were manufactured by Brno under contract on the same line as the VZ-24 and others were made in Iran on Brno machinery and supervised by Brno labor. One nice thing about the Persian 98's is that they never saw war time action so most are matching and in good condition. I think the Farci script is pretty cool too..

Hello Allen,
The interiors are as smooth as any 98 type I have ever seen. The preservative that was used when they were stored tends to stain the interior black so they look bad at first glance.
SAMCO used to advertise these in the Shotgun News. Check the web for photos. If you can't find any PM me. Some folks may be turned off by the Farsi script but the wonderful condition and workmanship far out weighs that.

I believe they are the exact same action. Many more VZ-24's were made and saw a lot more hard duty. The persian's vere stamped with there crest and all that farsi shit on the left wall says blah blah a.s. brno.

VZ-24's are/were cheaper because there were lots. I bought a few when they were $69.00 I even have 1 w/matching ser# on bolt. The persians that I have seen were all way to nice to cut up. Expensive to!

I've been talking to Jim Dubell about doing all the metal work.Really nice guy! I think he will do a wonderful job.

Will be surface ground so the Farsi dosn't bother me.

Samco has 98/29 barreled actions for 180.00. I think they even have matching #s.

Nice thing about a barreled action is it won't bother me to cut one up.It seems like the best way to get a really nice action for a custom.

I want two of the best/nicest actions possible for these guns. The cost of the action is kinda small compaired to cost of all the rest of the stuff it takes to make a really nice custom.
