Gunsmithing costs
What is the average going rate these days to have a Mauser action drilled & tapped? And, how much to have a barrel cut & recrowned?

Thanks!

I charge I believe
$67.50 for D&T and $37.50 for cut/crown.

Brownells publish a "average price list" every so often as a service to gunsmiths
drill and tap receiver ..(per hole)...20 to 45 dollars

cut and crown....35 to 95 dollars

prices vary a lot

I pay $20/hole for D&T work. Never had a barrel cut and crowned, so I can't help there.

I have a friend that is a semi-retired gunsmith who values his time at $65/hr.

For a cut and crown, I believe he quoted me $65. When he forged a bolt handle and D/T'd four holes on a Mauser for me three years ago, he charged me $150.

Another gunsmith quoted me $30/hole to D/T. I didn't get far enough talking to him to get a quote for a recrown.

Thanks everyone.

A buddy has an old sported Mauser he's had forever. Now he needs a scope and the crown is a bit worn, and he'd like to shorten the bbl from 24" to 21" to shed a bit of weight. Getting old is hell! Ask me how I know.

He wanted to know what a fair price is. This will help a lot.

Gracias!

Drill and tap 4 holes in a 98 Mauser at my shop in North Texas is $60.00 which includes mounting and bore sighting the scope.

Cut and crown for a rifle is $45.00.
