1909 Arg. bottom metal on 96 Swede?
I was wondering if it would be possible to alter a 1909 triggerguard to fit a 96 Swede. Is it simply a matter of the action screw hole placement or is it too wide?

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Bill,
The action screw spacing is different. The 96 is 7.620" and the 1910 Argentine is 7.835". It would take some major modification.

I was fooling around with a 96 action and 1909 bottom metal tonight and had this brain cramp for the idea of using the 1909 / 96 combo. It seems that if someone was pretty handy with a welder it wouldnt be all that difficult to remove cut out the length difference of .215" from between the floorplate pivot pin and the front screw area. Obviously a jig would have to be made in order to get the distance between screw holes correct. I think the slot for the trigger would have to be opened up forward about .125" also. I also think that a filler block about 1/8" thick would have to be placed in the front of the mag box.

Has anyone ever done something like this before? I think that 1909 bottom metal would look VERY nice on a 96.

Bill,

Talk to Jim Dubell, he is very gifted. He can take a 96 bottom metal and hinge it. I will email photos to you of what he did with some Springfield bottom metal.

I have a hinged piece of bottom metal for a 96 that I am going to use on an upcoming rifle. They are around but rare.
