<Sandy>Remington Chambers
Has anyone out there heard anything about Remington factory barrels having crooked chambers specially in 300 Ultra mag. Any thing about Remington no longer standing by any accuracy claims for regular factory rifles.

ready_on_the_rightA friend bought a new .338Ultra-Mag when they first came out that was suffering from this problem. Rather than fool with Remington he had a gunsmith rebarrel it with A douglas I believe.

I may be wrong, but I never knew of an "accuracy guarantee". That's hard to prove anyway. If you shoot it, then me, then someone else, we'll probably have three different sized groups (levels of accuracy).
If it's an obvious bad chamber, I'm sure they'll make it right. I had a VLS in 223 that had a "ringed" chamber, looked like the reamer caught a chip. It left a ring on the brass after firing. Sent it back, got a new rifle a week later.

DB BillHad a problem similar to Gary's and while it was resolved it took me a bit longer.

Bill LeeperRemington chambers that are a little offset are not uncommon in any caliber. Their method of reaming the chamber is quick and easy but not precise when it comes to alignment. Some of these eccentric chambered rifles shoot surprisingly well but they don't look good and of course their potential is limited. Regards, Bill.

UltramanI have the same rifle as you and have heard this a number of times from gunsmiths and other owners. To make sure of your particular rifle you can always make a cast your chamber with cerrosafe (Brownells sells it)and measure it. In terms of how Rem stands behind their products, while I have no personal experience with this, the posts I have read on xtremeaccuracy are scary.

StonecreekI once saw a Remington 700 on which the bore at the muzzle was out-of-center with the barrel! Surprising thing is, it shot quite accurately.
