Tell me about Border barrels and/or Broughton

JustCTell me about Border barrels and/or Broughton
I have been hearing some good things about both of these brands. Are they cut or button rifled? How do they perform? Where can they be purchased? Anyone have one of either brand?

Border Barrels, while I think you are talking about
Borden Rifles. From what I've heard, both excellent, but not the same.
As far as the Border barrels go, I've not used one myself, but if you go to some of the HighPower competition oriented sites, like
www.floridahighpower.com, enter the forums, and then search for 'border barrels' it appears they have been doing pretty well.

jpbI have a Border (yes, Border!) barrel.
I wanted a 35 calibre barrel with a faster twist and slightly smaller bore than normal. They use the cut rifling system, and can make any twist or bore you want.
It is a very accurate barrel! It is also extremely smooth (judging from my cleaning patch), and it hardly fouls in the slightest (even with full house loads in my .358 Norma Mag).

Border Barrels are located in the broder area Scotland/England. The fellow who runs the place is Dr. Geoffery Kolbe. Who also have invented the Kolbe p-max pressure device.
They make cut and button rifled barrels. I have only used the cut rifle. You can choose from a large variety of options, twist, caliber, number of lands. They make barrels for doubles, drillings and ordinary rifles.
I had 5 barrels from border and will soon the number 6. All have been shooting well beeing easy to break in and not givening me any funny surprises. Most custom rifle makers/builder I know of in Sweden uses them.
Border is a given choice for me, Kreiger nice but hard to find in this part of the world.

JustCJohan,...I appreciate your input on several boards and see you as a definite no BS guy. So,..if I were to go for a 1000yd Light gun barrel in 30cal or 7mm would these barrels hang with my harts, PacNors,..and the like?

flacoSpent some time with a target rifle builder this afternoon, and it reminded me of this thread.
He pulled out a Broughton 6.5 that was waiting to be chambered. Checked it out with the scope.
It's a four groove barrel, and the grooves are beveled. I expect it's been lapped, but he drew my attention to the fact that it's not all that smooth.
He says they work fine that way.
I also believe he said that these were an innovation by someone named Boots Obermeyer.
I expect this guy's chambered almost all the various kinds of barrels, but, for what it's worth, he's using Broughton now.

MasteriflemanI believe the "beveled" rifling was "Boots" Obermeyer's 5R rifling, it was designed that way. As far as Border vs. a number of American made barrels, you can't go wrong with Krieger, Obermeyer or Chanlin for cut rifled, Lilja, PAC-NOR, Shilen, Hart and a host of others for button rifled. The Border barrels have a great reputation amongst the precision target shooters but, so do Hart, Krieger, Obermeyer, Lilja, etc. You won't have near the hassle obtaining the domestic brands, quicker delivery and will probably save money.

Well put, and right on the spot. With any of the above barrels, OR a Border barrel, the two major concerns for accuracy are:
1. Who is fitting/assembling the rifle?, and
2. Who is shooting it?
If they both do as well on their ends as the barrel-maker commonly does, it will shoot just fine.
My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
