CraigPNew Zastava M98 Actions
Has anyone seen, handles, inspected or played with one of the new Zastava Mauser 98 actions being imported by Charles Daly? If you have, what was your impression of it? I was playing with the idea of stainless 375 H&H in a nice piece of walnut.

aHunterHas anybody their homepage? Or exact company adress? I cant find it. I would be interested in one of those "fast" .375s ( Hollands of course, dont need no RUM, WSM, BSE ... )
Good shooting! Hermann

boltmanThey're just now trickling into the states, and the stainless ones are still a few months out. They're the same as the old interarms MK10 actions.

CustomstoxThere are a lot of things I don't like on that action. The side drilled and tapped, the button release that is half below the stock line, that Remington safety that necessitates a hole in the side of the stock.
Lots of work to do to get it to where I want it.
OOps, missed the swept back bolt. I wonder why they didnt put fins on the back of these. I am glad they are marketing the mini mausers. I will take those any way I can get them.

aHunterChic, please detail me: what drilled sides and what doesnt fit with the bolt handle?
I am interested in one in .375 as my next step-up, especially with that "quick" barrels.
Thanks, Hermann

CustomstoxaHunter, open up the site and click on the picture and it will enlarge. The right side of the rear bridge is drilled and tapped, I would imagine for a lyman peep sight. Adn the bolt knob is swept back and looks like crap in my opinion. The safety is obvious.

aHunterCustomstox, I just looked it up. Your info is correct, of course. IMO the screws dont detract from the strenght of the gun any, its just the optics. Other way round I like peeps, especially on a DGR. I might try a Lyman or Williams, I hope its not in the way of the repeating motion.
De gustibus non est disputandum, I have nothing agains that swept back bolt ( I dont like that on the French army bolt action ;-))
I am missing the open sights, dont they have ones?
I very much respect your opinion, Chic, Im no gunsmith, just seeking info there.
Good shooting! Hermann

Major CaliberBuy the barreled action, I've had several Zastava's, and their factory barrels are very accurate.

CustomstoxHermann, I am not sure if they offer open sights. You are right in that the holes will not bother the strength. It is just something that I would weld up to get rid of. With my vision, peep sights are a thing of the past. I do have a Lyman 35 on a Mauser but it mounts on the bolt stop. The problem being is that it costs as much as some rifles now.
I think the Alex import ones are much better looking and a better bargain for the money.

I can see why you do not like those two screw holes. I would prefer that they be omitted as well.
The bolt handle looks like standard Interarms Mark X issue. That works fine on my 458 lott and 458 win mag.
