zastava double trigger
Is there any way to improve the pull on a zastava with double triggers. I only want to improve the front trigger so i will not have to set the rear one. thanks

Yes; replace it with a Timney trigger. Unset DST front triggers are still direct pull triggers and cannot be improved upon to any real degree.

while it’ll never be as good as a Timney, it can be improved. Do all the things you do to a regular Mauser military trigger. If you want to go further you need to make a double lobed kicker so you can tune it independently for the front trigger (the rear needs clearance)

So a Timney will fit after the double set triggers are removed ? thanks

Yes, but you will have a big hole in the trigger guard bow where the DST fit. .
Where are you; bring it over and I'll look at it.

I'd re- enforce the replacement trigger idea. A DST CAN be made with an acceptable front trigger pull, but I'd dount there's more than handful of smiths that would take it on anymore

The hours that can go into it, you'd be way ahead financially with the rplacement...and you might be able to peddle the DST hardware fopr more than you'd think

You can remove the front trigger completely and If you have the skill, get the rear to about 6Lbs safely. But 6 lbs is not the best trigger, I can hunt with mine, but a Timney might suit most..You have to mill out the area that separates the two triggers in your bottom metal floor in order to fit a Timney in a 98 Mauser in most cases and that's a piece of cake, I've done it with a drill press, file and course sanding paper to finish if your careful, but my smith does a better job!!..

I would say the you can sell the DST setup for the same price as a new Timney.
Ii like them because they are old school German; not because they are practical at all.
And I missed a deer with DSTs on a Flintlock and spined a caribou with them on a Sharps. But it dropped; just that it fired before I intended it to. And as you know, using the front trigger, unset, is a very bad idea and for emergencies only. A good two stage military is better....
Or more.

I also would endorse fitting a Timney trigger. I don't like double set triggers for the same reason I abhor those American triggers with the safety blade protruding from the centre of the trigger shoe, the length of pull always seems too long for me and the DST fiddly.

I replaced the admittedly smooth but heavy two stage on my Oberndorf Mauser sporter with a Timney M98 Sportsman and never looked back. A slight shaving of wood in the trigger cavity to fit the Timney, about a minute to change over and set up for a light, break like glass let off. The ribbed trigger shoe back in the guard for good LOP and feel.

My Jp Sauer has a timney but the trigger was cut out of the timney and the Sauer rear trigger was installed in the Timney ( requires a surface grinder and pins ) but the scalloped rear Sauer is beautiful and fires at 3 LBS. the front trigger was placed in a tin box with old double set triggers..A small but intricate work of art..
